Our climate emergency

All five of the Local Authorities in West Yorkshire have declared a Climate Emergency.

In January 2019, Bradford Council declared a climate emergency and passed a motion to commit to a green economy.

In March 2019, Leeds Council declared a climate emergency and committed to making Leeds Carbon Neutral by 2030. The Leeds Climate Commission has worked with Leeds Council to run a city wide conversation about the climate emergency.

Calderdale Council also declared a climate emergency at the start of 2019, and had developed Vision 2024, laying out plans to tackle reductions in carbon emissions.

In May 2019, Wakefield Council followed suit and declared a climate emergency. It has pledged to become a Carbon Neutral organisation by 2030.

Kirklees Council has a vision to make Kirklees completely carbon neutral by 2038.

Now, West Yorkshire must work together to build a sustainable green economy and a carbon zero future. CPRE West Yorkshire will campaign to help this happen, championing sustainable developments that enhance the countryside and protect West Yorkshire for future generations to enjoy.
