Clifton Business Park
Calderdale Council have said that they are keen to “kick-start” development of the Clifton Business Park, adjacent to Wakefield Road and the existing Holiday Inn, close to junction 25 of the M62 motorway. The Council say that the land has been designated as employment land for the last ten years but this alone hasn’t been enough to prompt development. They are therefore proposing to acquire the land using compulsory purchase powers and have applied for funding from West Yorkshire Combined Authority.
Whatever economic benefits the Business Park will bring, CPRE has strong reservations about the wider scale of housing and industrial development currently envisaged for the area in both Kirklees and Calderdale Local Plans. The plans will effectively merge Brighouse, Clifton, Cooper Bridge, Fixby and Bradley. We are therefore watching the proposals very closely, have participated in the Kirklees Local Plan hearings and and have responded to the Calderdale Local Plan consultation.
